CVD-2500 is a mid-sized model in Yuanxian’s production vacuum freeze dryer line, with an effective shelf area of 25 m², a single-batch load of approximately 250 kg of fresh material, a cycle of approximately 18~28 hours from pre-freezing to discharge, a shelf temperature range of -55~+120℃, an ultimate vacuum of ≤10 Pa, and an installed power of 112 kW. The material is first frozen into ice, then under vacuum the ice sublimates directly into water vapor, which is captured by the cold trap. Water leaves the material without passing through a liquid state, so the finished product retains its original shape, color and flavor. It is suitable for mid-volume freeze-drying production lines at crop-producing-area factories, and belongs to the Yuanxian vacuum freeze dryer series.

Where it is used

Application category Typical materials Characteristics after freeze-drying
Edible fungi Shiitake, king oyster mushroom, matsutake, wood ear Shape retained without collapse, aroma well preserved
Fruit and vegetable crisps Strawberry, mango, longan, apple slices Color and shape retained, fast rehydration
Chinese medicinal herbs Ginseng, notoginseng, gastrodia, reishi Low-temperature dehydration, stable properties
Freeze-dried meat and seafood Beef, chicken breast, shrimp Intact tissue, close to original state after rehydration
Pet snacks Freeze-dried meat chunks, organs, whole small fish High added value, storable at room temperature
Functional foods Probiotics, solid beverages, soup bases Active ingredients well preserved

The capacity positioning of a mid-sized freeze-drying line is here: several hundred kilograms of daily input, approximately 250 kg of fresh material per batch, suitable for processing plants that have their own raw material in the production area and need stable output without moving to a large line all at once.

How drying works

Stage Temperature trend Vacuum Function
Pre-freezing +25 → -35℃ Atmospheric pressure to low vacuum Moisture freezes into ice crystals, material sets
Primary drying (sublimation) -35 → +60℃ Low vacuum, maintained for sublimation Ice sublimates directly into water vapor, captured and condensed by the cold trap
Secondary drying (desorption) +60 → +120℃ ≤10 Pa Residual bound water removed, target moisture content reached

Shelf contact conduction, heat transferred to the trays from both above and below. The vacuum system takes approximately 13 minutes to pump from atmospheric pressure to 50 Pa under no-load conditions; after loading, the curve follows material thickness and moisture content. The entire freeze-drying process is completed in an oxygen-free vacuum environment, so the material does not oxidize or shrink.

How to choose the cooling method (evaporative cooling is standard)

Method Applicable conditions Notes
Evaporative cooling (standard) Water-scarce areas, sites without cooling towers Condenser 4.1 kW, eliminates cooling tower infrastructure
Water cooling On-site circulating cooling water Stable condensing efficiency, requires cooling water temperature ≤32℃
Air cooling Northern, dry areas Saves cooling water, efficiency drops 5~8% during hot summer days

The cooling method is determined by the customer’s on-site water source and climate conditions; after modification, each item is calculated in the proposal.

Why choose it

  1. Mid-sized capacity, approximately 250 kg per batch. The 25 m² shelves work with cart loading, approximately 250 kg of fresh material per batch; a production line with several hundred kilograms of daily input does not need to move to large equipment all at once, with less pressure on floor space and power distribution.
  2. Cylindrical chamber, mature pressure-resistant structure. The Φ1800 × 4200 mm circular chamber has a mature manufacturing process and low vacuum leakage rate, giving better vacuum stability over long-term operation.
  3. Single screw unit + economizer, high efficiency at low temperature. A single Hanbell RC2-230 screw replaces two parallel units, simplifying piping; the standard economizer supplements cooling capacity under low-temperature conditions, improving efficiency by approximately 10~15%.
  4. Fully automatic freeze-drying curve control. PLC plus touch screen sets pre-freezing, primary drying and secondary drying in three stages, with multi-channel real-time temperature recording, supporting data export and batch traceability.

FAQ

How much freeze-dried finished product can CVD-2500 output per batch?

Taking fruits and vegetables with a moisture content of approximately 90% as an example, 250 kg of fresh material generally yields 25~40 kg of finished product after freeze-drying. Actual output depends on the raw material’s initial moisture content, slice thickness and target moisture content requirements; loading density is controlled at 8~10 kg/㎡ of shelf area.

Why does the freeze-drying cycle fluctuate between 18~28 hours?

The cycle is determined jointly by material moisture content, slice thickness and loading density. Meat and high-sugar fruits require longer times; the thicker the slices and the denser the loading, the longer the sublimation drying stage. Processing different materials on the same equipment, with the cycle falling within this range, is normal.

Is separate quick-freezing equipment needed?

Pre-freezing can be done on the chamber shelves, or the material can first be frozen in an external quick-freeze warehouse below the eutectic point before entering the chamber. The former saves equipment but occupies chamber time; the latter improves equipment turnover. Whether to add it is determined by the production line rhythm.

Why does the vacuum system use a rotary vane pump plus a Roots pump?

Freeze-drying requires ice to sublimate under vacuum, and the target vacuum needs to be stably maintained at around 10 Pa. The rotary vane pump handles pumping from atmospheric pressure to rough vacuum, and the Roots pump takes over to boost pressure in the low-pressure region; only the two-stage combination can stably maintain the vacuum under large loading volumes, and it also facilitates defrosting and maintenance by batch.

How to choose between 25 m² and larger or smaller models?

Choose by single-batch load and daily throughput. For a single-batch raw material volume within a hundred kilograms, mainly for sampling or small batches, consider a smaller model; for around 250 kg per batch with a need for stable output, CVD-2500 is more suitable; for daily input exceeding one ton, consider a larger production model. The site also has smaller household and R&D freeze dryers for comparison.
